Durban II: A Call for Anti-Semitism?
A full-page newspaper ad signed by 25 prominent religious, legal and political leaders, to be ran in the New York Sun and Washington Times, is a direct call for America to officially announce that it will not participate in the upcoming conference, Durban II, calling for Secretary Condolezza Rice to denounce it for it’s anti-semitic implications. This ad comes after the Durban I conference, held in 2001.
The intention of the 2001 World Conference Against Racism, Durban I, was to fight discrimination and stamp out any intolerance issues. Instead, the then-deputy foreign minister, Michael Melchior, claimed the Duban I conference, supported by the U.N., "hosted the most racist speeches and proposals to be heard in an international forum since World War II", prompting both the U.S. and Israel delegates to walk out of the conference after harsh criticisms of Israel were given.
Knowing that Durban II will be a hateful, anti-semitic continuation of Durban I, Canada has already announced it will not be attending the Durban II Conference. Although the U.S. hasn’t officially made that statement, they have shown significant action against it when the U.S. was the only "NO" vote when the U.N. passed a two-year budget that included funding for this conference.
